Industry Briefing: Building a New Footscray Hospital

The Victorian Health and Human Services Building Authority (VHHSBA) held an Industry Briefing about the New Footscray Hospital on Thursday 14 February.

The briefing was aimed at those experienced in major infrastructure and hospital projects - whether in the design, construction, financing, advisory or facilities management industries - who were interested in learning more about the New Footscray Hospital Project, which is proposed to be delivered as a public-private partnership.

Footscray Hospital was built in the 1950s and is a major tertiary and teaching hospital providing elective and complex surgery to Melbourne’s inner west. Despite minor expansions and refurbishments since 2009, the ability of Footscray Hospital to continue to service western Melbourne, and in particular the inner west, is becoming increasingly challenging.

The Victorian Government announced on 7 October 2018 that it will invest up to $1.5 billion to build a New Footscray Hospital. The preferred location for the new hospital is Victoria University’s Footscray Park car park at 89 Ballarat Road, Footscray (corner of Geelong and Ballarat Roads).
