Sunshine Hospital emergency department redevelopment

The Victorian Government is investing $34.8 million to redevelop the emergency department at Sunshine Hospital to meet the needs of the growing population in Melbourne's west.

Sunshine’s emergency department is one of the busiest in Victoria treating around 65,000 patients each year. The redevelopment will see an extra 65 treatment spaces in the emergency department, an expanded children’s section, a medical imaging suite, a mental health and alcohol and other drug crisis hub and an expanded administration area.

Once complete, the hospital will have capacity to treat an extra 59,000 emergency patients every year.

The expanded Sunshine Hospital emergency department is expected to open in late 2021.
