Cobaw Community Health Services - Healthy Community Access Hub

Location 1 Caroline Chisholm Drive, Kyneton, Victoria, 3444, Australia

The Victorian Government is investing $9.7 million to develop a Healthy Community Access Hub in Kyneton.

The project will bring vital community health and family services together under one roof, providing better access to healthcare for people in the Macedon Ranges Shire and surrounding communities.

The purpose-built hub will offer 13 consult rooms for allied health, counselling, paediatric and family services. E-health technology will help link patients in remote areas with the health care they need. The hub will also provides community meeting spaces and dedicated areas for youth and children’s services.

This project was funded through the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund (RHIF). The $350 million fund is the largest grant program of its kind in Victorian history. It provides vital government funding to rural and regional public health and residential aged care services across Victoria. This funding enables these services to continue to provide safe and efficient care to local communities.

The Healthy Community Access Hub project was funded through the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund. The hub includes:

  • 13 consult rooms for allied health, paediatric and family services
  • dedicated spaces for youth and children’s services
  • community kitchen, bathroom and laundry
  • needle exchange program
  • Centrelink services
  • flexible meeting spaces accessible to the community with audiovisual and ICT facilities
  • staff work spaces and amenities
  • reception spaces
  • e-health technology
  • on-site car parking

The design of the building reflects the natural and built environment found within the Macedon and Cobaw ranges.

The Healthy Community Access Hub project aims to achieve the following benefits:

Better collaboration

The hub brings together primary health and community health services under one roof. This will improve convenience for the community and enable health professionals to work collaboratively to deliver better outcomes for patients.

Creating a health precinct

The Healthy Community Access Hub was constructed adjacent to the Kyneton District Hospital, creating a health and community services precinct in the Macedon Ranges area.

User-centric design

The building’s design involved significant input from future users of the space to ensure the facility best meets the needs of community members and staff.

Using technology to deliver health care to remote areas

The hub features some of the latest advances in e-health technology, linking patients from remote towns in the Macedon Ranges and beyond with the care they need. New technology makes it easier for clients to create and change bookings.

Flexible community spaces

The hub substantially boosts the number of multi‐purpose consulting rooms and community meeting spaces within the region.

Largest grant program of its kind

The $350 million Regional Health Infrastructure Fund, which includes the Aged Care Regional Health Infrastructure Fund, is the largest grant program of its kind in Victorian history. It enables rural and regional public health and residential aged care services to invest in modern infrastructure and equipment. This supports the services to continue to provide safe and efficient care to local communities.

Funding for this project was administered by the Victorian Health and Human Services Building Authority through the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.

The project was delivered by Cobaw Community Health Services in partnership with:

  • NTC Architects (architect)
  • A W Nicholson (builder)
  • APP (project managers).
