The Royal Children’s Hospital expansion project

Location 50 Flemington Road, Parkville, Victoria, 3052, Australia

The Victorian Government is investing $31.4 million to expand the Royal Children’s Hospital.

This expansion will allow The Royal Children’s Hospital to continue to meet increasing demand through the expansion of acute paediatric beds and emergency department services.

The Royal Children’s Hospital is one the state’s leading paediatric hospitals providing specialist care for children from Victoria, Tasmania, southern New South Wales and around Australia. It is also a leading hospital in paediatric training and research.

The Royal Children’s Hospital expansion will deliver:

  • the fit out of a new 30 bed paediatric inpatient ward
  • an additional 20 emergency department cubicles.

The Royal Children's Hospital expansion project aims to achieve the following benefits:

Specialist care

The Royal Children’s Hospital is one of Victoria’s leading paediatric hospitals, providing specialist care for children in Victoria, Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia. It is also the designated major trauma centre for paediatrics, providing Paediatric, Infant and Perinatal Emergency Retrieval (PIPER) services and is a nationally funded centre for paediatric heart, lung and liver transplantation.

Expanded services

The expansion of the paediatric inpatient ward and additional emergency department cubicles will increase capacity of acute paediatric bed-based services and emergency services for young Australians. Additional capacity will assist in improving patient wait times, and enable the hospital to meet increased demand for specialist paediatric treatment and care.

This project is being delivered by the Victorian Health and Human Services Building Authority under the Partnerships Victoria (PPP) concession in partnership with The Royal Children’s Hospital.
