$30 million to upgrade Victorian public residential aged care services

The Victorian Government is investing $30 million to upgrade over 50 public sector residential aged care services across Victoria.

This investment will ensure public sector residential aged care services can continue their vital role in supporting the most vulnerable older Victorians.

Victoria has the largest number of public sector residential aged care services in Australia, collectively operating 1,787 aged care beds, including 267 which are dedicated to supporting Victorians with mental health and complex needs.

$20 million aged care stimulus package

The $20 million aged care stimulus package will be spread across 33 Victorian public sector residential aged care services, including:

  • 17 metropolitan facilities will share $15 million to upgrade building fabric, engineering infrastructure and resident accessibility, and
  • 16 regional facilities will share in a further $5 million to upgrade flooring, refurbish communal living areas and replace equipment.

This funding is just one part of the Victorian Government’s $2.7 billion Building Works package.

$10 million Regional Health Infrastructure Fund

A further $10 million will also be provided for 19 regional and rural public sector residential aged care services, funded through the fourth round of the Victorian Government’s landmark $350 million Regional Health Infrastructure Fund (RHIF).

This funding will help regional and rural facilities to improve capacity, general amenities, landscaping and outdoor spaces, kitchen and dining facilities and upgrade medical equipment.

The new funding will bring a much-needed economic boost for the aged care sector as Victoria continues to focus on economic recovery, while providing improved comfort and services for our most vulnerable Victorians.
