Getting ready to build the Victorian Heart Hospital
Work is getting underway on Australia’s first dedicated state-of-the-art cardiac facility – the Victorian Heart Hospital.
The Victorian Heart Hospital will play a central role in transforming Victoria’s cardiac care system and will be built at the Monash University Clayton campus, minutes away from the Monash Medical Centre and Monash Children’s Hospital.
About the project
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Australia, with recent statistics showing that one Australian dies every 12 minutes from cardiovascular disease. In direct response to this, the Victorian Government, in partnership with Monash Health and Monash University, will deliver Australia’s first dedicated cardiac facility in 2022.
The Victorian Heart Hospital is a $564 million project that will join an elite league of world-renowned cardiac facilities around the world. It will save lives and improve patient outcomes by accelerating the translation of major discoveries into patient treatment.
By building Australia’s first dedicated heart hospital, we are taking an important step towards better health outcomes for all Australians.
Preparing for upcoming works
The first step in getting ready for construction is the preparation of the build site located on Blackburn Road, Clayton, opposite the Australian Synchrotron. This will involve ground and site access preparations and will take place in stages over several weeks, starting the end of July 2019. All work will be carried out between the hours of 7.00 am and 5.00 pm to ensure minimal disruption.
