New community mental health centre opens in Portland

The new $1.5 million Portland Community Mental Health Centre was officially opened this month.

The new centre includes:

  • more consulting rooms
  • separate adult and children waiting areas
  • sensory gardens
  • five private interview rooms
  • a child/family interview room
  • a staff office and support area
  • a multi-purpose conference room also available for community use
  • purpose-built spaces for individual and group therapeutic activities.

More private consulting rooms, along with the option of telehealth and video conferencing facilities will increase the number of appointments available. This increase will also help reduce crisis situations and pressure on emergency services.

The new centre means greater access to high quality mental health support for the Shire of Glenelg and the surrounding community.

Operated by South West Healthcare, the new facility was made possible through the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.

Funding regional and rural health services

The $470 million Regional Health Infrastructure Fund is the largest of its kind in Victorian history. It provides funding to improve health services in rural and regional Victoria, ensuring all Victorians can access high quality care and facilities no matter where they live.
