New designs unveiled for regional alcohol and drug residential rehabilitation facilities
More support for Victorians recovering from alcohol and drug addiction is one step closer, with designs revealed and a builder appointed for three new regional rehabilitation facilities.
The Victorian Government is investing $52.1 million to build three new regional alcohol and drug residential rehabilitation facilities in Corio, Traralgon and Wangaratta, including:
- a 30-bed adult residential rehabilitation service in Wangaratta
- a 30-bed adult residential rehabilitation service in Corio
- a 20-bed youth-specific residential rehabilitation service in Traralgon
- administration and consulting facilities
- dining and activity areas
- landscaping.
The designs provide a first look at the facility exteriors, grounds and internal fit-outs, which have been carefully considered to create a welcoming and healing atmosphere for individuals and their families.
Once complete, these facilities will provide alcohol and drug residential rehabilitation services to an additional 900 Victorians every year.
The new facilities will help more Victorians access and get the support they need – closer to home and their support networks. They will also help reduce the impact of drugs and alcohol on local communities, improving community safety and wellbeing.
The residential rehabilitation facilities are part of the Victorian Government’s implementation of wide-ranging reforms across the alcohol and drug sector, including more than $180 million as part of the Ice Action Plan and $87 million through the Drug Rehabilitation Plan.
All three facilities will be built by Modscape and are expected to be operational in 2021.
